Sanremo Festival and Performance Rights: SCF expects overall 4.6% share of radio airplay in 2025

SCF's new analysis of BMAT radio broadcast data shows that songs from the Sanremo Festival will continue to be well represented on the airplay of the main national stations in 2025, with an overall share of 4.6%, in line with the 2024 figure.

The survey, conducted on a panel of the top six Italian radio stations by audience, confirms the continuity of the Sanremo effect over time and places the 2025 result above the pre-pandemic benchmark of 2019, when the share stood at 2.8%.

The monthly trend is also significant: the peaks recorded in March and April (18.5% and 10.3%) highlight a strong post-Sanremo momentum, stronger than the previous year. This was confirmed during the 2025 Festival week, when the average second share of songs reached 16.9%, compared to 13.6% in 2024.

"The SCF analysis confirms that the repertoire presented at Sanremo Festival drives the Italian radio airplay system: the SCF data highlights how the Festival continues to be a market-activating moment, with measurable effects distributed throughout the year," comments Mariano Fiorito, General Manager of SCF. "The stability of the annual impact and the strengthening in the post-Festival period indicate a structural ability of these songs to establish themselves permanently in radio programming, generating value for the entire music industry."
